Prairie Women's Sewing Circle was an active club from 2009 through 2017. Over 500 quilt shops in the United States and many overseas had active clubs. While few active clubs are in quilt shops, we are lucky enough to run the club for the first time in our area. Enjoy all the stories of life in the 1800s and the quilts you will make for your own home.  If you love quilt history and want to learn more about life in the nineteenth century and “Make-do” quilts, you will enjoy experiencing the Prairie Women’s Sewing Circle and … ...Journey the threads of time!

We have wanted to run Pam Budas Prairie Women’s Sewing Circle Club for years, and here we are! The club will meet two times each month on the Saturday dates listed above and offers several Open Sew dates on the Sunday following the club meeting. Enjoy a weekend doing what you love. You may leave your machines and supplies if you plan to attend the Open Sew.

The Journey OnePrairie Women's Sewing Circle Club features six historic anecdotal stories about daily life for an "ordinary" Prairie woman, c. 1840-1900, who sewed daily of necessity. The stories vary about the daily goings-on in her life. At the same time, she traveled westward on the Oregon Trail, homesteaded in the Prairie, took care of her family, set up housekeeping, and lived life during the Civil War.

Journey One features eight doable, affordable projects!  One lap-size quilt, six small quilts, a bonus Yo-Yo quilt, and a pin cushion.  All use modern piecing and rotary techniques!  (The Yo-yos are hand-stitched.)

At the Journey's end, we will host a reveal party where we can all enjoy the beautiful quilts you made along the way.

This adorable project uses top-quality flannels for the background and borders with hand-felted, hand-dyed woolens for the applique. Gina Z did a fabulous job selecting fabrics and making this BOM exclusive to Meeting House Fabric. Following the pattern by Buttermilk Basin, each block is completed at 12” and is stitched by hand. The project also uses decorative embroidery stitches and embellishments and can be easily finished by Christmas 2025.

Each month for 10 months, you will receive instructions and a new kit to include all the flannel and woolens for the blocks, borders, and bindings.

Simple stitches and wool applique make this project great for any level. Each month, our Merrie Christmas BOM coordinator, Gina Z, will offer a FREE spot in one of her StitchBook Workshops to participants of this BOM. Dancing Chickens and Flying Pigs is our newest Block of the Month program concentrating on a whimsical journey of dreams and random thoughts.
Combining linen with woven wool applique and stitchery, it is the perfect project for any hand-sewing enthusiast! The finished size of this quilt is 48" x 50". Each month you will receive a special parcel with instructions and fabrics to complete each block, with the final block with border fabric and instructions to complete your quilt. What a fun Block Of The Month program this is! The wall hanging has everything to do with Christmas with a bit of whimsy thrown in . The pattern has many images you could use again and again to not only make the wall hanging, but you could make bags, cushions, a naughty & nice list, pincushions, needlecases, the list goes on!

The fabric collection and quilt are Lynn Wilder’s tribute to brave women of the 1930s American Depression era. These women were hired through the newly-formed Works Progress Administration (WPA) by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to put Americans to work during and following the Depression.

Eleanor Roosevelt sought to create jobs specifically for women, beginning with the Packhorse Librarian Program, the first traveling “bookmobile” paid $28 per month to transport books deep into the hollers and mountains of Kentucky by horseback and mules. 

These brave women (along with a few men) put their lives at risk as they carried books into inaccessible and remote places on a daily basis. They brought literacy to the mountains through terrible storms, rising creeks and rivers, and wild animals, and the fact that some were resistant to the written word. These were the obstacles the Packhorse Librarians faced. 

The fabric line is called HEARTHSTONE, named for the flat stone forming the hearth in the small cabins in the woods. The BOM quilt is called Bridle Path. Fearless women sometimes had to carve out their own paths through the wilderness, sometimes following game trails barely visible to the naked eye. 

The women were fearless, 'plucky', and determined to improve the lives of their own families, in addition to improving the lives of the impoverished and illiterate. Their courage is admirable and their stories need to be told, says Lynn.
